Winter Work

Hives and honey farm under snow

Winter permits the beekeeper a certain level of freedom. During the active seasons the beekeeper is a slave to the bee. We must supply the hive with what it needs as the seasons progress (e.g. protein, carbohydrates, empty frames, removing full frames, swarm prevention etc). During the winter we don’t open the hives for a period of about three months. At Quince Honey Farm the winter is jam packed with exciting projects because it is such an opportune time to get things done.
